Small Acts, Big Blessings: Why Doing Good Deeds Matters

Small Acts, Big Blessings: Why Doing Good Deeds Matters

Have you ever held the door open for someone, helped a friend carry their lunch tray, or shoveled snow for a neighbor — and felt really good afterward? That feeling isn't an accident. It's the Spirit confirming that you just did something awesome.

The Book of Mormon is full of examples of people who chose to serve others, and their stories show us that doing good deeds isn't just nice — it's life-changing.

What Does the Book of Mormon Say About Doing Good?

King Benjamin gave one of the most powerful talks in all of scripture. He taught:

"When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." — Mosiah 2:17

That's huge. Every time you help someone — whether it's a friend, a stranger, or even someone you don't get along with — you're literally serving God. You don't have to be a missionary or a church leader to make a difference. You just have to show up for people.

Ammon: The Ultimate Good Deed Guy

Think about Ammon. He was a prince — he could have lived an easy life. Instead, he chose to serve King Lamoni as a servant. And when enemies came to scatter the king's flocks, Ammon fought to protect them.

He didn't do it to look cool. He did it out of love and a genuine desire to serve. And because of that selfless act, thousands of people came to know the gospel.

Your good deeds can have a ripple effect you'll never fully see. 🌊

Why Should You Do Good Deeds?

Here are a few real reasons to be someone who does good:

  • It builds your testimony. Serving others draws you closer to Christ.
  • It fights off negativity. It's pretty hard to feel sorry for yourself when you're focused on helping someone else.
  • It changes lives — yours AND theirs.
  • It's contagious. When people see you doing good, they want to do it too.

Easy Good Deeds You Can Do This Week

You don't have to move mountains. Start small:

✅ Text a friend who's been going through a hard time ✅ Help a sibling with their chores without being asked ✅ Compliment someone genuinely ✅ Donate clothes or food you don't need ✅ Smile and say hi to the kid who sits alone at lunch ✅ Pick up trash you didn't drop

The Promise

Moroni wraps it up perfectly:

"Every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good... is inspired of God." — Moroni 7:13

When that little voice inside you says "go help that person" — that's the Spirit. Listen to it. Act on it. Because those small moments of goodness? They're what the gospel is all about.

Go be someone's Ammon this week. 💛
